International Academy for Ilokano and Amianan Studies. It is likewise
co-sponsored by the GUMIL Hawai`i and the Timpuyog dagiti Mannurat nga
Ilokano iti Amerika/Global (Ilokano Writers Guild of America/Global).

A: Registration

A: Yes, there are deadline to look into.

A: You can have a late registration but you cannot avail of the
‘early bird’ discount.
Q: Is Nakem Conference responsible for the accommodation?
A: No, the
Nakem Conference committee does not offer accommodation. However, it
recommends several places accessible to the conference site. The cost of
lodging varies.
Q: How will I enlist the services of any of these lodging places?
A: It is
recommended that you contact the lodging place or hotel of your choice
directly and make your reservation. Nakem Conference Secretariat also
recommends that you make your reservation early.
Q: Are the foreign participants required to go through the same
registration and lodging reservation procedures?
A: Yes, all these procedures apply to all.

I need the CHED endorsement so I can claim ‘official business’ time from
my school, college, or university. How can I avail of a copy of the CHED
endorsement?

atvisaya@yahoo.com. Request for a fax copy of that document. You can
also request for a pdf copy, whichever is your preference.
Q: I need a copy of the Department of Education
advisory. Where can I get a copy?
A: Send an email to Dr. Visaya. Request for a copy.
Q: Do I need to sign up for accommodation?
A: The Conference’s Accommodation Committee recommends
several lodging and accommodation sites close to the Conference venue.
You can check on the list by navigating to the section on “Call for
Papers.”
Q: Do we need to prepare something for the
cultural program?
A: The cultural night, to be held on May 22, has been
designed to be the padaya for all the delegates, participants, guests,
and civic, political, and cultural leaders. It is advised that you bring
your best attire for this night and prepare for your best performance.
Q: Are they going to be resolutions to be
discussed?
A: The resolutions will cover the nature of Ilokano as a
lingua franca in Amianan and the life and future of the rest of the
Amianan languages. Other resolutions include the strengthening of the
teaching of the indigenous languages in basic education.
Q: Are we permitted to come up with our own
resolutions?
A: Yes, you can submit your resolutions that are relevant to
the pursuit of Ilokano and Amianan Studies.
Q: What is this Ilokano and Amianan Studies?
A: It is the attempt to evolve a dynamic and critical body of
knowledge about the peoples, languages, and cultures of Amianan.
Q: What about the International Academy of
Ilokano and Amianan Studies?
A: It is the cultural and political arm of the Nakem
Conferences, Inc., a non-profit organization manned and operated by the
Ilokano and Philippine Drama and Film Program of the University of
Hawai`i. Nakem Conferences Inc. is also the offshoot of the 2006 Nakem
Centennial Conference held in Honolulu that gathered many scholars and
cultural leaders from several countries: the US Mainland, the
Philippines, the State of Hawai`i, Australia, Canada, Japan, and New
Zealand.
Q: How do I get to become a member of the Nakem
Conference?
A: Membership of the Nakem is by country and by local
chapter. Inquire from Nakem Conference Philippines if you are from the
Philippines. All other countries will join the United States head office
based in the University of Hawai`i.
Q: How do I get to become a member of the
International Academy of Ilokano and Amianan Studies?
A: Membership to the International Academy is based on merit
and invitational.
Q: Do we expect a venue for the publication of
the conference papers soon?
A: The Ilokano and Philippine Drama and Film Program of the
University of Hawai`i has began publishing the select conference papers
in its two books, “Saritaan ken Sukisok” and “Essays.” We hope to launch
the refereed Nakem, the collaborative Journal of the International
Academy of Ilokano and Amianan Studies, Nakem Conferences Inc. and UH’s
Ilokano Program.
